TECHNICAL SELF-TAPE INSTRUCTIONS

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Framing: Record your audition in the landscape / horizontal position (Sideways) NOT VERTICAL
  • Lighting: Film your audition in a well-lit area. Your light source should come from behind the camera, not from behind you.
  • Background: Find an uncluttered area to film in where we can see you clearly. Ideally against a neutral backdrop.
  • Audio: Record your audition in a private, quiet space with no other loud or distracting noises.

WARDROBE INSTRUCTIONS:

SLATE / INTRODUCTION VIDEO:

Frame yourself in camera so you can be seen from head to toe or as close as possible if your space limits your framing.
Look directly into the camera and answer the below questions.
1. What is your full name?
2. How tall are you?
3. Where are you located?
4. Are you represented by a talent agent? If so, who?
5. If you have any experience with performance magical, please take :30 seconds and tell us about it! How long have you been practicing magic? What kind of tricks do you do? Do you perform live, etc.

If you have glasses on, please take them off briefly and smile.

After you answer all questions smile with your teeth and then show us your side profiles.

SCENES:

FRAMING: Frame yourself in camera so you can be seen from the waist up. For the TEAMS CALL scene we understand you may be cut off higher due to sitting at a desk/table.
SCENE 1: TEAMS CALL

Important Performance Note: Adam is engaged and warm on the call, but when he starts shifting into the fabric pulling magic he should subtly shift to being more deadpan. Think David Blaine.

You are sitting at a cafe on your laptop on a Teams call (similar to Zoom if you haven't used Teams before).  You are presenting design directions. You are talking through your presentation. While talking, you reach behind your laptop and pull out a classy piece of fabric. You continue pulling out multiple vivid fabrics like an infinite handkerchief trick. Everyone on the call is nodding in agreement, they like your presentation.

Please use an actual laptop in the scene if possible and sit facing slightly off camera

This scene should last around :15-20 seconds. Multiple takes accepted but only one is required. No audio is required for this scene.
SCENE 2: MAGIC

Whether you are a real magician or an actor open to playing a magician, please show us some magic tricks! No real magic will be required on set as it will all be done in post.  The main goal here is to see your performance style, slight of hand, slip of the wrist kind of movements.

Important Performance Note:Please do this DEADPAN, think David Blaine. This is not a goofy fun magician moment, this is a serious performance. Also it is important that we can clearly see your hands for these tricks!

If you are a practicing magician, show us 2 different slight of hand tricks that you are comfortable doing. Perform these deadpan into the camera.

If you are NOT a practicing magician please show us 2 faux magic tricks. Pick 2-3 of the magic tricks from the above videos or similar (you can look up common card tricks also). The success of the magic trick is not important, and you also do not have to talk. The important part is to show us how you work with the cards / scarf / object of choice. What are your hand gestures / flourishes, flicks of the wrist! Remember to deliver this DEADPAN.

If you have fancy card / deck handling tricks that are non-magic, show us! For example, are you really good at shuffling a deck in a fancy way?
